Investors Business Daily published an editorial railing against healthcare reform. Among other arguments, the editorial is scathing in its criticism of the healthcare system in the UK.
People such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn’t have a chance in the U.K., where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless.
What the editorialists apparently don’t know is that Stephen Hawking was born in the U.K., has lived there his entire life and continues to reside there. Apparently that dreaded single-payor system has been quite capable of keeping him alive and functioning.
Update: IBD has “corrected” its editorial because the original “implied” that Hawking did not live in the UK. Implied my butt. The original (quoted above) implied no such thing. It stated that he did not live in the UK which would have killed him.
