Good news from a CBS/NY Times poll: nearly all American want texting while driving banned.
Ninety-seven percent support the prohibition of texting while driving, an unusual level of agreement for any topic. Eighty percent also support a ban on talking on a hand-held cellphone while driving.
While a ban would not alone stop the behavior, the punishments that would follow can have an impact. A program similar to that which has reduced drunk driving would be a good start.
