Quote of the day

There is not one human problem that could not be solved if people would simply do as I advise.

Gore Vidal, as quoted in his excellent obituary in the New York Times. I often feel the same way. Vidal died yesterday at 86 years of age.

If you haven’t seen it, you should take a look at this television exchange between Vidal and William Buckley during ABC TV’s coverage of the Chicago riots during the Democratic convention in 1968.

  1. I like this quote from when he was asked what he thought about William F. Buckley’s death “I thought hell is bound to be a livelier place, as he joins forever those whom he served in life, applauding their prejudices and fanning their hatred.”
