We need this kind of propaganda. Train the kids to follow orders. Compliance over everything else. Listen to Jesus, listen to the police, listen to the teachers, listen to everyone. And whatever you do, don’t ever learn to think for yourself. (via Dvorak Uncensored)

For the last time, Obama is not a Muslim
This is really incredible to me. But it appears that the number of Americans who believe President Obama is a Muslim continues to grow.
The number of Americans who believe — wrongly — that President Obama is a Muslim has increased significantly since his inauguration and now account for nearly 20 percent of the nation’s population.

Shameful quote of the day (updated)
Yeah, we water-boarded Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. I’d do it again to save lives.
–Former President George W. Bush, speaking in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Wednesday.
It is amazing to me that a former president of the United States can speak so openly and proudly of violating US law, US treaty obligations, and general human decency. It is far past time for the Obama Administration to open a full review of the treatment of prisoners by the United States during the prior administration (and this administration as well).

The loss of a pet
This is very hard to watch, but it is also very moving in its depiction of the pain of deciding when a pet has to be let go. (h/t Andrew Sullivan)

Desperation time at Nokia? (updated)
Is Nokia desperate to have a big hit phone? Well, you tell me. They have launched a site that appears to be soliciting users to design their ideal phone. I don’t think you drive success this way. Crowd-sourcing is cool and all that. But this approach by a major phone manufacturer is either pandering to consumers, or a joke, or desperation.
Update: Meanwhile, Apple is now officially accepting applications for the iPad.

Stunning events in Haiti
To really understand what is going on in Haiti, right now, you have to look at this collection of photographs from The Big Picture, a terrific project from the Boston Globe. This certainly seems a bigger catastrophe than the tsunami in southeast Asia a few years ago. If you have ever experienced a major earthquake, you can understand. I have, but fortunately nothing so extreme. (Warning: some of this is hard to view and it makes me want to cry.)
