Why do people act like animals for a few bucks in savings? Year after year?

What goes unsaid
Robert X. Cringely has another insight. What is missing from the Black Friday sales?
Sitting here in Santa Rosa drinking too much coffee while the turkey cooks I’ve been reading the Black Friday sale fliers and you know what’s missing? Desktop computers. Radio Shack doesn’t even have a desktop on sale tomorrow and even Walmart has only one.
I did note a Black Friday sale at Amazon where the base line MacBook Airs and iMacs are on sale for about 10% off. But the discounts on HP desktops, by comparison, are either non-existent or extremely tiny.
Still, in past years, low-cost Windows-powered machines featured prominently in almost all sales flyers. I wonder who wants such device now, whatever the price?
Welcome to the post-PC era.

Pepper spray is A-OK
So if pepper spray is OK to use on peaceful protestors, why not fellow Wal-Mart shoppers?
This is so sad. But the constant barrage of advertisements calling for more shopping and deals that cannot be matched, coupled with the recession, is certainly an inducement for such behavior.
Meanwhile, an off-duty police officer pepper sprayed Wal-Mart shoppers in North Carolina.
God, I love the commercial nature of America. Merry Christmas.
